Stephen Ministry

Our Training Class scheduled for January 2012 has been postponed until a later date.

As we enter into our third year of ministering to those who need spiritual encouragement and prayer, we want to thank our congregation for their continued prayer for the Stephen Ministers in this much needed ministry.

If you know of someone who needs help or if you need help coping with a difficult situation, please let us know.   We have members of the church who are trained to give you spiritual encouragement, to listen to you and to pray for and with you.  This ministry is strictly confidential between you and your Stephen Minister.

For those not familiar with Stephen Ministry, it is a distinctly Christian Ministry which trains people, through discussion and experiential learning, the necessary skills to be an effective listener to someone who is hurting.  The training teaches you specific techniques to minister to someone going through a crisis in their life.  This is a one-on-one confidential ministry, woman to woman or man to man.  We help many people as they go through the grief of losing someone they love; those who have just become 'empty-nesters'; those who have just moved to a new state,  those who are going through a divorce; those who have lost a job --- any number of different crises.

Or perhaps God is calling you into this ministry.  Have you been praying about this ministry and know this is where you wish to serve?   Do you just want to know more about it?   If so, please stop by our table on Sunday, January 22 during the Ministry Fair in the Family Life Center and get the information you need to help you make this important decision.  Or stop by the Kiosk in the foyer of the Sanctuary on Sunday morning, pick up one of our pamphlets and speak to a Stephen Minister to get more information.  They are waiting to help you.  And, of course, you can always call the church office at 445-5520 and you will be referred to a Stephen Minister who will answer your questions.

Stephen Ministry - Compassion in Action

We live in a broken and disconnected society, where people suffer crises and tragedies, but they often don’t have caregivers they can count on. Family members and friends may be scattered across the continent. Communities rarely offer the support they once did. So when a crisis or challenge hits, many people have no one to turn to and end up facing it alone.

Willow Hills has joined hundreds of congregations in providing Christ’s care for people through people. With Willow Hills' Stephen Ministry, people suffering crisis or tragedy canget the one-on-one care they need by a trained Stephen Minister.
